I'm a new UI/UX designer who started in the summer of 2023. For my first case study, I worked to design an iOS mobile app catering to plant enthusiasts. I observed a gap in the market for a community-driven plant care app, thus I delivered a full app design and design system called BlossomBuddy.
Problem
BlossomBuddy is a mobile app designed to bring together plant lovers, providing them with a platform to share their plant care experiences, seek advice, and connect with fellow enthusiasts.
👉 Existing plant care mobile applications often lack a robust and engaging community platform for plant enthusiasts.
Solution
The app aspires to cultivate a vibrant plant-loving community where users can showcase their plant collections, participate in discussions, access plant care tips, and enjoy an aesthetically pleasing platform designed to enhance their overall experience.
💡 BlossomBuddy provides a unique and engaging solution to the current gap in the plant enthusiast mobile app market.
Process
Sketches
My process starts with wireframes from my initial ideas, then moves to mockups, and finally the high-fidelity prototype. Through sketches, you can see how my approach solves the problem.
Wireframes & Prototypes
I then brought my idea to an interactive, low-fidelity visual representation of the user interfaces for my mobile application. They outline the structure, layout, and basic elements of a webpage or app screen.
Design System
My design system begins with research and exploration to choose the right colors, icons, and typefaces that align with my project's goals and target audience, effectively communicating the desired message and enhancing the overall user experience.
All Screens
Onboarding
The Onboarding process introduces users to our community-driven plant care app. It begins with our logo to establish the app’s image and engaging catchphrases to a preview of the app's diverse offerings. Finally, users are guided to the sign-up page, where they can begin their journey within the BlossomBuddy community.
Plant Insights
The Plant Insight Page is the app’s homepage and serves as an information hub, offering users a one-stop resource for all their plant care needs. Users can access comprehensive information about specific plants, including care requirements, images, and user-generated content.
Community Forum
The Community Forum organizes plant-related topics, enabling users to engage and contribute actively with the Add a Topic feature, fostering knowledge exchange within the community.
What I Learned 🌱
Throughout my BlossomBuddy UX journey, I acquired proficiency in Figma and its design tools, using it as a canvas to translate ideas into intuitive user interfaces while embracing collaborative design practices. Additionally, I honed my decision-making skills, prioritizing user-centered choices that aligned with the app's mission of fostering community, knowledge-sharing, and emotional connections among plant enthusiasts.
